Individual, Couple and Family Counseling

Change is possible!

Mission

Health is not simply absence of disease. Health involves good relationships with families and individuals. Marriage & Family Life Clinic is committed to your health through strengthening marriage and family relationships.  My primary focus in therapy is working with the family.  Families go through many crisis points including marriage, divorce, deaths, births, adoptions, children with behavioral problems and diagnoses.  I focus on working on problem solving skills and collaborative parenting skills.

Through a learning and growing process, I hope to help people enhance their relationships by providing counseling services to individuals and families. These services focus on bringing healing to individuals and families with a variety of life events, stressors and issues.

Janet D. Byars, MS, LCMFT, trained at Friends University, and by Dr. John Gottman, of the Relationship Clinic in Seattle, Washington, leading marital researcher and therapist internationally.  Jan also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Friends University training other therapist as they enter the field as new clinicians.  Licensed in Kansas and Missouri, Clinical Member of American Association of Marriage & Family Therapy, American Association of Christian Counselors, and Traumatic Stress Specialists.

"You Can't Make Me"

Strong-willed children are a challenge for the best of parents. This book helps you “get inside” the child’s head to see how he or she thinks, making it more natural to motivate, discipline, and build relationships.

"Attachments"

Why is it so difficult to connect with, or even get along with, certain people especially the ones you care about the most? Drs. Tim Clinton and Gary Sibcy believe that, for each of us, our present relationships are influenced by our first "attachments" or bonds with people in early childhood. Consequently, understanding your pattern of relating to others what the authors call your "attachment style" is the cornerstone for building satisfying relationships with the people you love.
